“When you love people and have the desire to make a profound, positive impact upon the world, then will you have accomplished the meaning to live.” -Sasha Azevedo
Being an educator gives me the opportunity to inspire children everyday. As an educator, I believe it is important to create learning opportunities that encourage discovery, inquiry, exploration, and learning. My goal as a teacher is to foster and maintain an inclusive and supportive classroom environment in which each student feels safe, secure, and appropriately challenged.
I believe in a “Child-Centered” education where the educator considers the learning style and particular interests of the child. I believe that it is essential that students not only learn from their teacher, but from each other. It is important to create lessons and assessments that fit the needs of a diverse student population. Throughout my teaching career, I have developed lesson and unit plans that foster learning in all of my students. I understand how individual differences can influence learning and therefore, I have learned how to create and adapt curriculum, instruction, and assessment to meet the needs of diverse learners. Aware that students respond best in different types of settings, I have learned how to prepare and present lessons that accommodate all learning styles. By incorporating linguistic, visual, logical, musical and kinesthetic resources into my teaching approaches, I am ensuring that each child is able comprehend and retain the knowledge they have learned.
In the course of my experiences as a teacher, I have learned tools and methods on effective teaching which I will be able to utilize in my teaching career. I believe that effective teaching relies on engaging students with challenging academic work along with creating an inclusive learning environment that motivates students to achieve their best. I believe that a good teacher helps guide children through their experiences and ensures that all children feel welcomed. Proper guidance is one of the essential components to the success of any child.
When you teach you have to inspire students to learn, but you also have teach them how to learn. I believe that while students must ultimately take responsibility for their own learning, a teacher can often inspire a student’s desire to learn. As an educator, it is my goal to enhance student learning as a transformative experience. Through active participation in the classroom students can grow intellectually, enlighten curiosity and be inspired to reach their goals. I believe that children share a joyous amount of energy and inquisitiveness as they encounter their world.
Teaching abroad has many benefits. It will make me a stronger person both professionally and personally since teaching in another culture heightens your interpersonal skills, makes you think outside the box, and increases your insights and perceptions. Teaching abroad allows me to combine my two passions: teaching students and learning about new cultures.
Becoming a successful teacher does not happen overnight, but instead it is a continuous progress of learning. Having the tools, skills, and desire to help students learn and progress towards a successful future is what has ultimately shaped my decision to become a teacher.
